Senior Software Engineer II
New York, NY
Who We Are
Kargo creates powerful moments of connection between brands and consumers to build businesses. Every day, our 600+ employees work to radically raise the bar on what agentic AI, CTV, eCommerce, social, and mobile can do to deliver unique ad experiences across the world’s most premium platforms. Taking a creative science approach to all we do, we continuously innovate solutions that outperform industry benchmarks and client expectations. Now 20+ years strong, Kargo has offices in NYC, Chicago, LA, Dallas, Sydney, Auckland, London and Waterford, Ireland.
Who We Hire
Techies who want to build the future. Creatives who want to design it better. Communicators to win business. Collaborators to build it. Data pros who turn numbers into insights. Product builders who turn ideas into innovations. Anyone eager to be on a team that doesn’t stop to ask what’s next, because they’re already building it.
The Opportunity
The Kargo Workflow Platform powers our entire AdTech engine, and we're modernizing it. As a Senior Engineer on the team, you'll design and build distributed services that are reliable, observable, and built to last — owning projects end-to-end and partnering across engineering, product, and data. We're looking for a self-starter who finds problems, frames them, and fixes them, and who makes the engineers around them better in the process.
The Daily To-Do
- Design and build distributed services for the Workflow Platform modernization, thinking about failure modes, retry logic, and observability from the start
- Own significant projects end-to-end — from design through deployment and post-launch optimization — with minimal hand-holding
- Improve platform health through latency reductions, fault tolerance, and observability enhancements with measurable outcomes
- Use AI-assisted development tools fluently to ship faster, and actively share what's working with teammates
- Raise the quality bar through code reviews and design discussions, contributing well-reasoned opinions
- Partner with Product, Data, and cross-functional stakeholders, translating fluently between technical and non-technical
- Mentor less experienced engineers through pairing, documentation, and patient, constructive guidance
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time in distributed or high-scale backend systems
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern, high-performance language; TypeScript and/or Golang strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, availability, fault tolerance, event-driven architecture, and service orchestration
- Experience building and maintaining microservices in production at meaningful scale; async messaging (Kafka, Pub/Sub) or workflow engines a strong plus
- Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and debugging production issues using monitoring and distributed tracing
- Active user of AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) with real, demonstrated productivity gains
- B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience; AdTech, programmatic, or real-time systems experience a plus
In accordance with applicable federal, state, and local pay transparency laws, the anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for variable compensation — either the Kargo Sales Incentive Plan (sales roles) or an annual discretionary bonus (all other roles). Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, education, and skills.
